What should you receive after a WordPress website build?

Before a project finishes, agree on website access, ownership, everyday editing and the responsibilities that continue after launch.

A website handover should leave you able to access and manage the agreed parts of the website, understand its main dependencies and know who is responsible for maintenance. The exact deliverables belong in the project scope before work starts.

Know which accounts the business relies on.

The domain, hosting and WordPress login are different accounts. A design tool, email service, payment provider or plugin subscription may add more. Ask which accounts belong to your business and which are supplied under a support agreement.

Make sure access is shared with the right people and stored appropriately. It should not depend on finding an old conversation with a contractor when something urgent happens.

Check the editing tasks you will actually do.

Being able to log in does not mean your team knows how to update the site. Ask for guidance on the tasks you expect to handle, such as editing service information, replacing an image or publishing a post.

There may also be areas that should not be changed without developer input. A useful handover explains that boundary instead of assuming every screen in the admin area is safe for a new editor to adjust.

Review the launch checks and remaining responsibilities.

A finished build and an ongoing support service are different arrangements. Ask what is covered after launch, how requests are handled and what requires a separate estimate.

  • Confirm forms reach the right inbox and any private enquiry system.
  • Check the agreed pages on phones and desktop screens.
  • Understand backup location, retention and recovery checks.
  • List paid licenses and who renews them.
  • Agree who handles updates, faults and future improvements.

Agree on it before the final week.

Bring these questions into the brief and proposal. That gives both sides a chance to include the necessary guidance and documentation in the project rather than discovering a gap at the end.

For Stream HD IPTV, our delivery included the design, WordPress development and move to the client's domain. Every project has its own requirements, so use a real project example to discuss the handover you need rather than assuming all builds include the same support.
